Biographical Summary

Dr. Miri Gitik is a Program Director in the Division of Neuroscience and Behavior (DNB) at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Her extramural research grant portfolio includes studies focused on understanding the genetics of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), using a variety of genome wide omic techniques (genomic transcriptomic, epigenomic) and integrative approaches; efforts aiming to develop new strategies and leverage existing resources to understand how genetic variation influences individual differences in AUD risk and outcomes; identify shared and distinct genetic components of AUD and other related phenotypes; large scale, data driven investigation of genetic and environmental interactions in AUD;

Dr. Gitik received her doctoral degree in Neurobiology from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.  As a post-doctoral fellow at the Laboratory of Neurogenetics (LNG), NIAAA, she studied the role of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms in AUD and other substance use disorders. Before joining DNB in 2024, she served as a Program Officer at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), where she oversaw a portfolio focused on genetic discovery in psychiatric disorders.
