Sarah Ruiz, Ph.D., joined the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, within the Administration for Community Living (ACL) in 2016 and serves as the Associate Director in the Office of Research Sciences (NIDILRR/ACL/HHS). Dr. Ruiz has 20 years of experience in disability and aging research, health policy, and evaluation of evidence-based programs and practices. Her expertise lies in health care innovation, chronic disease-self management, health promotion, person-centered care and family support, end of life care, multi-component interventions, and quantitative methodology. Recently, she led an opioid initiative at the Administration in Community Living that resulted in new knowledge on opioid misuse and long-term pain management for people with disabilities. She is passionate about achieving health equity for people with disabilities of all ages. Ruiz holds a PhD in Gerontology from the University of Southern California.
