NIAAA Science Spotlight – Update on Activities Related to Women and Girls

In this webinar, Ivana Grakalic, PhD will provide an overview of important findings from epidemiological and neuroscience research on harmful drinking among women and girls, including findings from major multi-agency initiatives such as the Collaborative Research on Addiction at NIH (CRAN) Initiative, the Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies® (BRAIN) Initiative, and the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study (ABCD) Study.  She will also highlight promising developments in research on pharmacotherapies for women who drink at harmful levels.  Deidra Roach, MD will discuss risk factors for harmful drinking among women and girls and the health impacts of drinking across the lifespan.  In addition, she will provide an overview of several projects evaluating promising behavioral treatments for women who drink at harmful levels and describe several ongoing collaborative activities to improve access to high quality, gender-relevant mental health and addiction treatment services among women and girls.
