Workshop: Role of Alcohol Misuse in the Onset and Progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and Its Related Dementias
Date:
July 26, 2023 - 10:00 AM to July 27, 2023 - 4:00 PMDetails:
The NIA-NIAAA workshop on “Role of Alcohol Misuse in the Onset and Progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and Its Related Dementias” will be a hybrid event held in the Natcher Conference Center on the NIH Campus, in Bethesda, Maryland on July 26 - 27, 2023.
The goal of this workshop is to discuss the role of alcohol misuse in the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s disease and its related dementias (AD/ADRD). This workshop will discuss a lifespan perspective of prenatal, adolescent, and late-life alcohol exposure on the development of AD/ADRD. Presentations will include information on both preclinical and clinical evidence of how chronic heavy alcohol exposure may intersect with pathways of developing AD/ADRD and exacerbate dementias. Built upon the previous RFA and administrative supplements, this workshop will facilitate identifying research gaps and challenges to advance our understanding of the relationship between alcohol misuse and AD/ADRD.
