Biographical Summary

Dr. Chholak joined NIAAA in 2022 as a Postdoctoral Fellow after receiving his PhD cum laude from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain, in studying neuronal mechanisms of perception and cognition as revealed through his MEG/EEG experiments and simulations of neuronal network dynamics. With a background in engineering and biomedicine, his research areas of interests include neuroscience, nonlinear dynamics, and mathematical modelling of biological systems. Dr. Chholak is currently leading a phase-IV clinical trial for the drug, acamprosate, in AUD inpatients to investigate the electrophysiological mechanism of the drug as well as to set the basis for EEG-based treatment-tracking and personalized medicine for acamprosate in future. In addition, he provides a wide range of analytical, technical, and scientific expertise on research related to studying the impact of childhood trauma on adult brains, the alterations in sleep patterns seen in treatment-resistant depression, and others.
