Biographical Summary

Dr. Parasuraman is a Social and Behavioral Scientist Administrator in the Division of Epidemiology and Prevention Research. Prior to joining NIAAA, Dr. Parasuraman served as a Health Science Policy Analyst in the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR), under the Office of the Director at NIH. Dr. Parasuraman began her federal career at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), primarily serving as chief evaluation officer with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. 

Dr. Parasuraman has conducted research related to child, adolescent, and young adult health topics; children and youth with special health care needs; health services research; health and health care disparities; and social determinants of health. Dr. Parasuraman completed a postdoctoral fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She earned a Ph.D. in Health Policy and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, an M.P.H. in Community-Oriented Primary Care from the George Washington University, and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Michigan.
