Webinar: "An Introduction to Online Human Research Strategies: Recruitment, Management, and Intervention”

Friday, May 8, 2020

2:30 pm –3:30 pm Eastern

Speakers: Dr. Steven Ondersma, Dr. Karen Ingersoll, and Dr. Jaimee Heffner will address the following:

This webinar is designed for investigators interested in moving some or all of their research programs online as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it is designed to be broad enough to apply to behavioral research broadly, many examples will be taken from alcohol use research- - particularly with women.

  • Dr. Ingersoll will share her experience conducting a recent trial involving online recruitment and an internet intervention designed to reduce alcohol-exposed pregnancies. Drawing on experience gleaned from nine studies involving online recruitment and app-based interventions,
  • Dr. Heffner will share lessons learned and current optimized strategies for high-reach online recruitment through social media, particularly via Facebook and Instagram.
  • Dr. Ondersma will review common types of online interventions as well as options for their development, particularly in cases where large budgets for software development are not available.

Issues regarding the validity of online samples, consent, and participant protection will also be addressed.

Sponsored by the Interagency Work Group on Drinking and Drug Use in Women and Girls.
